The Dresser

Dave's childhood dresser has been stored at one of our rental properties for the past seven years. It has been beat up by tenants and completed used and abused.

We were planning on always leaving it at the rental. However, when we started thinking about Daniel's bedroom and furniture, I realized we did not have a dresser for his room. The closet is huge, so big you can fit a twin sized bed in there. There are floor to ceiling shelves, which are perfect for toys, sweaters and bins of whatever miscellaneous items that go in a little boys' closet. I didn't think we needed a dresser with all the shelf space.

I've been trying to occupy my time with projects over the past few months. They keep my mind off of waiting and are a constant distraction. They keep me fueled and busy. My mind and heart work best when I'm occupied with a project.

Dave was in Texas for several weeks in May. While he was gone, I had my brother help me move the dresser from the rental unit over to our house. I spent 2 weeks sanding it down to raw wood, cleaning it and then repairing whatever nicks and dents it had. I picked out a stain as close to the color of Daniel's 4 in 1 convertible crib/bed. It doesn't match perfectly,  but it's pretty darn close.
After five coats of stain and two coats of polyurethane, multiple weeks of work and new hardware, this project is finally complete.

Today, Dave helped me move it up to Daniel's room and get it in place. It's not in the exact place as it will be once the room becomes Daniel's. (It's still Dave's office) But, for now, it's the first part of Daniel's room that is set up.
